The Holy Trinity Cathedral with its bell tower is the main building of the Trinity-Elijah Monastery complex, founded on the Boldyni Hills of Chernihiv in the 11th century by Saint Anthony of the Caves (Pecherskyi).

The biker poet Leonid Hlibov is buried near the southern wall of the cathedral.

The 58-meter-high monumental bell tower is open for visitors (195 steps), the best panorama of Chernihiv opens from above.

З 1790 року Троїцько-Іллінський монастир служить резиденцією чернігівського архієпископа. Тут знаходиться Архієрейський будинок, в якому зараз розміщується Чернігівське духовне училище регентів-псаломщиків.

Сам монастир не діє, але Троїцький собор відкритий для парафіян. У храмі спочивають мощі чернігівських угодників: святителя Феодосія Чернігівського, преподобного Лаврентія, святителя Філарета (Гумилевського), частки мощей деяких київських святих.

Біля південної стіни собору похований поет-байкар Леонід Глібов.

Монументальна дзвіниця висотою 58 метрів відкрита для відвідування (195 сходинок), згори відкривається найкраща панорама Чернігова.

Свято-Троїцький кафедральний собор входить до складу Національного архітектурно-історичного заповідника "Чернігів стародавній".
