An exhibition of sacred sculpture opened in Zhovkva Castle

The presentation of the restored spaces of the first floor of the Guest Building of Zhovkva Castle took place in the city of Zhovkva in the Lviv region. The restored halls have opened the exhibition "The Path of Creation: Sacred Sculpture of Galicia of the Late 17th - Early 19th Centuries," the administration of the Lviv National Art Gallery named after Borys Voznytskyi reports on its official Facebook page.

It is noted that the new exhibition presents one of the largest thematic exhibitions of wooden sacred sculpture in Ukraine, representing the mastery of the Baroque sculpture school of Galicia.

"On an area of ​​almost 1,200 square meters, Baroque and post-Baroque works by masters of the Lviv and Zhovkva schools were presented. Most of them have been in storage for decades and are appearing before the public for the first time," said the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, who attended the opening of the exhibition, on social networks.

According to the head of the region, the restoration of the Guest Building is an important step in the revitalization of the Zhovkva Castle.

"Sculptures that have survived wars, destruction and years of silence are looking at people again. We are returning their space - they are returning our memory to us," said Maksym Kozytskyi.

The restoration work was carried out with state funds, at the expense of the special fund of the art gallery, as well as thanks to the support of partners from the Polonika Institute.

Let us recall that two years ago, the second floor of the Guest Building was opened in Zhovkva Castle with an exhibition of Baroque paintings by Szymon Czechowicz. And in February of this year, the presentation of a new permanent exhibition "Glory of the Family - Glory of the People: Militaris, Sacrum, Artis" took place.

Презентація відновлених просторів першого поверху Гостьового корпусу Жовківського замку відбулася в місті Жовква на Львівщині. У відреставрованих залах розгорнули експозицію "Шлях Творення: сакральна скульптура Галичини кінця XVII – початку XIX століть", повідомляє адміністрація Львівської національної галереї мистецтв імені Бориса Возницького на офіційній сторінці у Facebook.

Зазначається, що в новій експозиції представлено одну з найбільших в Україні тематичних виставок дерев’яної сакральної пластики, що репрезентує майстерність барокової скульптурної школи Галичини.

"На площі майже 1200 квадратних метрів представили барокові та постбарокові витвори майстрів львівської і жовківської шкіл. Більшість із них десятиліттями перебували у фондосховищах й вперше постають перед публікою", – розповів у соцмережах голова Львівської обласної військової адміністрації Максим Козицький, який побував на відкритті експозиції.

За словами очільника області, відновлення Гостьового корпусу є важливим кроком у ревіталізації Жовківського замку. 

"Скульптури, які пережили війни, руйнування й роки тиші, знову дивляться на людей. Ми повертаємо їм простір – вони повертають нам пам’ять", – зазначив Максим Козицький.

Реставраційні роботи виконали за державні кошти, за рахунок спецфонду галереї мистецтв, а також завдяки підтримці партнерів з інституту Polonika.

Нагадаємо, що два роки тому в Жовківському замку відкрили другий поверх Гостьового корпусу з експозицією барокових полотен Шимона Чеховича. А в лютому цього року відбулася презентація нової постійної експозиції "Слава роду – слава народу: Militaris, Sacrum, Artis".
